— I love May. The sun’s starting to warm up, makes you wanna hit the beach.
— I can’t go, I’ve gained weight and got stretch marks, even.
— What you need is some nature therapy, feeling like you’re part of it all. Your fix is El Portús.
— El Portús?
— They seem happy. And you say it’s open all year round?
— Yep.

— We can charge 10 cents for people to look at everyone in El Portús.
— What a go-getter!
— Today happens to be Entrepreneur Day. Come on, go get more buckets of water!
— Okay.
— But remember, today is also the Day against Child Exploitation!!

···· And, finally, did you meet that handsome boy?
— Oh, yes, I invited him to the campsite, but I don’t think he understood me
— Wait, I have to repeat it again
— Naturist! Not naturalist!

— And El Portús, little niece, has its own weather station.
— How cool!
— It predicts the temperature, measures wind speed, humidity… And if it’s going to rain. Today, for instance, it won’t rain.
— Well, it got that wrong.
— It doesn’t predict what a seagull is going to do.

— And now, at Christmas, all that waste of lights and consumption. And meanwhile, the planet, with its global warming…
— …more droughts, fewer resources, and the North Pole melting.
— But Santa Claus lives there.
— Ahem. He used to live there!

— Yes, I’m taking advantage of the campsite’s winter offer. I’m with my little niece for a few days.
— The Portús campsite is commited to sustainability.
— Ah!
— Hey, what are you doing?
— I’m holding you! Mmpf…
— Tita, I want to divorce Michael. He doesn’t know what sustainability is.
— Would you rather spend a fortune on lawyers or explain him what it is?
— Okay, I’ll explain it to him.

— Sister, dear, thank you for taking care of your niece. This morning I took her to school and I was still thinking about El Portús.
— She’ll get over it.
Ring ring!
— Hello! Who’s calling? The school principal? What about my daughter?

PROGRAMA FIESTAS CARTAGINESES Y ROMANOS 2023

Carthagineses & Romanos 2023

Once again this year, Cartagena is proud of its millenary past. For this reason, in the second fortnight of September, the International Festival of Carthaginians and Romans is held, which began in 1990 to relive the events of the Second Punic War more than 2,200 years ago, taking the history and archaeology of Cartagena as a point of support.

The Official Main Events programme includes daily theatrical performances that allow visitors to relive history in the majestic settings of the city, including the Foundation of Qart Hadasht, the Destruction of Saguntum, the Session of the Roman Senate, the Wedding of Hannibal and Himilce, the Oracle of Tanit, Hannibal’s March to Rome, the Landing of the Roman Armada, the parades of troops and legions and the Battle for the conquest of Qart-Hadasht.

During the festivities, you can walk around the city taking part in the different recreational activities organised by the Carthaginian and Roman sides, and accompany the Carthaginian troops and the Roman legions that disembark in the port and parade towards the festive camp that is set up in the city and is the place chosen by visitors to continue the festivities every night (the warrior’s rest), visiting the craft market and enjoying the wide variety of Carthaginian cuisine specialities on offer in its bars and restaurants.

More than a hundred free activities are offered to the public in the festive camp, among which we can highlight the Pruebas de Aspar with playful activities for children offered by the Carthaginian Council and the Feriae Latino with performances and typical Roman food offered by the Roman Senate.
