Cartagena se siente orgullosa de su pasado milenario y sus habitantes son el motor de una festividad anual que es única en España: las Fiestas de Carthagineses y Romanos. Durante 10 días, en la segunda quincena de septiembre, más de cuatro mil cartageneros participan en esta representación que comienza en 1990 para revivir los hechos de la Segunda Guerra Púnica de hace más de 2.200 años, tomando como punto de apoyo la historia y la arqueología de Cartagena, y que cada año se reinventan para ganar más esplendor.
Con el afán de trabajo y buen hacer, se ha conseguido que Carthagineses y Romanos se convierta en un referente de calado internacional.
Durante los días de fiesta, se reviven todos los hechos heroicos que ocurrieron en el periodo que se inicia en torno al año 227 antes de nuestra era, con la fundación de Qart Hadasht por Asdrúbal Janto El Hermoso y finalizan en el año 209 a.C. con la batalla y la posterior conquista de la ciudad por las legiones romanas al mando del General Publio Cornelio Escipión, creando un ambiente mágico en el que disfrutan los cartageneros y los turistas que visitan la ciudad.
El programa de Actos Principales Oficiales incluye distintas representaciones teatrales diarias que permiten a los visitantes revivir la historia en los majestuosos escenarios de la ciudad, asistiendo, entre otros, a la Fundación de Qart Hadasht, la Destrucción de Sagunto, la Sesión del Senado Romano, las Bodas de Aníbal e Himilce, el Oráculo de Tanit, la Marcha de Aníbal a Roma, el Desembarco de la Armada Romana, los desfiles de tropas y legiones y la Batalla por la conquista de Qart-Hadasht.
Durante las fiestas, los visitantes y los cartageneros recorren la ciudad participando en las distintas actividades lúdicas que organizan el bando carthaginés y el romano, y acompañan a las tropas carthaginesas y las legiones romanas que desembarcan en el puerto y desfilan hacia el campamento festero que se instala en la ciudad y es el sitio elegido por los visitantes para continuar la fiesta cada noche (el descanso del guerrero), visitando el mercado de artesanías y disfrutando de la amplia variedad de especialidades de la cocina cartagenera que se ofrecen en sus barras y restaurantes.
En el campamento, los festeros ofrecen al público más de cien actividades gratuitas en sus campamentos, entre las que podemos destacar a las Pruebas de Aspar con actividades lúdicas para los niños que ofrece el Consejo Carthaginés y el Feriae Latino con representaciones y típicas comidas romanas que ofrece el Senado Romano.
Durante las Fiestas, el bus turístico modifica su recorrido y lleva a los visitantes al recinto para que disfruten de las actividades culturales gratuitas y se deleiten el paladar con las delicias gastronómicas del Campamento de Día.

Cartagena is proud of its millennial past and its inhabitants are the engine of an annual festival that is unique in Spain: the Carthaginian and Roman Festivities. During the festivities, visitors and locals go through the city participating in the various recreational activities organized by the Carthaginian and Roman sides, and accompany the Carthaginian troops and the Roman legions that disembark in the port and parade towards the festive camp that is Installs in the city and is the place chosen by visitors to continue the party every night (the warrior’s rest), visiting the handicraft market and enjoying the wide variety of specialties of Cartagena cuisine that are offered in its bars and restaurants.
In the camp, the festeros offer the public more than one hundred free activities in their camps, among which we can highlight the Aspar Tests with recreational activities for children offered by the Carthaginian Council and the Latino Fair with representations and typical Roman meals that offers the Roman Senate.
During the Holidays, the tourist bus modifies its route and takes visitors to the site to enjoy free cultural activities and delight the palate with the gastronomic delights of the Day Camp.
