Cartagena en Noviembre es Jazz

Desde 1980, Paco Martín  ha dirigido y programado todas las ediciones del Cartagena Jazz Festival, organizado por la Concejalía de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Cartagena. Este año, el festival, uno de los más longevos de España, celebra su 38º edición con la última programación que Martín confeccionó justo antes de fallecer. El festival se celebrará del 2 al 24 de noviembre y cuenta con un cartel que recuerda la figura de su creador también director de La Mar de Músicas. Esta cita musical reunirá este 2018 en Cartagena a Michel Legrand, Al Di Meola, Bill Evans junto a Randy Brecker, Camille Bertault, Madeleine Peyroux, Joan As Police Woman, Lisa Simone, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobhman, Scott Matthew, Richard Bona y Femi Kuti.

 

El festival se celebrará, como ya es habitual, en el Nuevo Teatro Circo y en el auditorio El Batel, y por supuesto, volverá a salir a la calle. Además, continuará la colaboración con bares de la ciudad como El Cuervo, Mr. Witt y El Soldadito de Plomo, y habrá un taller de lindy hop y swing. Pero el festival saldrá a la calle también. Todos los sábados de noviembre a partir de las 12:30 en la céntrica plaza del Icue actuarán Dixeland Train, Ché Swing & Marina, LCD Funk, Cotijazz Street Band, Alv McMartin, Zoot Suiters, Coco Swing. La sección Off del Cartagena Jazz Festival también contará con Baboon Blues County, Smart Set Trio & Vera Lu, Melo y un tributo a Grapelli. Por si esto no es suficiente, este año habrá un taller de jazz steps impartido por Irene Ballester

2 de Noviembre en el Nuevo Teatro Circo a las 21.30: Camille Bertault y Madeleine Peyroux

Camille Bertault es una de las grandes revelaciones del año y autora de uno de los álbumes más deliciosos de los últimos años: Pas de Géant. Esa noche concluirá con Madeleine Peyroux, cantante habitual del festival de jazz, sofisticada y con un gusto excelso. Esta gran dama del jazz vocal del siglo XXI presentará Anthem.

 

3 de noviembre  en el Nuevo Teatro Circo a las 21.30: Michael Legrand y Joan As Police

Michel Legrand es uno de los más grandes compositores y ganador de tres Premios Oscar. Creador de la banda sonora de más de 200 películas, ha grabado con Barbra Streisand, Miles Davis y dio forma con Boris Vian al primer ‘rock and roll’ en francés. Suma más de ochenta años, pero continúa imparable.

Joan As Police Woman presentará Damned Devotion, donde sigue mostrando un pop sofisticado donde se filtra un feminismo de reafirmación más que combativo.

 

9 de Noviembre en El Batel a las 21.30: Randy Brecker & Bill Evans y Lisa Simone.

Randy Brecker y Bill Evans son dos de los más grandes del jazz del momento y se juntan 15 años después para rememorar la gira Soulbop. En el 2003 Randy y Bill decidieron formar una nueva banda usando las diferentes influencias de cada uno, y este año giran de nuevo con un invitado especial, el batería Simon Phillips, batería de Toto, The Who o de Mike Oldfield entre otros…

Lisa Simone, hija de Nina Simone, viene a reivindicar su propio espacio en el mundo de la música, presentando My World, donde encuentra su propio lugar, su propia identidad.

10 de Noviembre en El Batel a las 21.30: Billy Cobham y Stanley Clarke Band.

El panameño-estadounidense Billy Cobham fue uno de los primeros artistas en conjugar los ritmos del rock con la polirritmia del jazz y el funk.  Es uno de los baterías que más han influido en la forma de tocar. Ha enriquecido la técnica de la batería jazz, la ha trasladado con energía al campo del jazz-rock y se ha convertido en un modelo para todos los baterías del mundo.

Stanley Clarke, cuatro veces ganador del Premio Grammy, y sin duda uno de los bajistas acústicos y eléctricos más famosos del mundo. Una leyenda viva, durante su carrera de más de 40 años como virtuoso del bajo.

16 de Noviembre en el Nuevo Teatro Circo a las 21.30: Scott Matthew y Al Di Meola.

El australiano Scott Matthew viene a presentar su último disco Unlearned. Dulzura, tristeza y amargura en sus justas dosis son las características de su estilo.

Al Di Meola, la gran guitarra del jazz fusión. Virtuoso endemoniado de la guitarra, ha sido un pionero en la fusión de las músicas del mundo, el rock y el jazz.

24 de Noviembre en el Nuevo Teatro Circo a las 21.30:  Richard Bona y Femi Kuti

Richard Bona es conocido como el “Sting africano”. Es uno de los músicos que mejor han sabido fusionar los sonidos y tradiciones de su África natal, la influencia europea y el mejor jazz americano.

Femi Kuti, hijo mayor de Fela Kuti, sigue manteniendo el espíritu arrollador de su padre y que le ha convertido merecidamente en el principal heredero de ese estilo hipnótico, donde la protesta política convive con el baile irresistible y el espíritu festivo. Funk, soul y R&B pasados por el filtro de los arrolladores ritmos primitivos panafricanos que siguen inspirando a generaciones con su discurso reivindicativo y esperanzado.

Entradas y programación del Cartagena Jazz Festival

Las entradas de cada concierto se pueden adquirir por 20 euros o 25, según el día. El resto de actividades son totalmente gratuitas. También hay abonos —concretamente 250— para asistir a todos los shows pero solo se podrán adquirir de manera presencial en las taquillas del Nuevo Teatro Circo y el Auditorio El Batel y por teléfono mediante tarjeta de crédito.

 

 

Cartagena in November is Jazz

November 2 at the New Circus Theater at 9.30pm: Camille Bertault and Madeleine Peyroux

Camille Bertault is one of the great revelations of the year and author of one of the most delicious albums of recent years: Pas de Géant. That night will conclude with Madeleine Peyroux, regular singer of the jazz festival, sophisticated and with an exalted taste. This great lady of 21st century vocal jazz will present Anthem.

November 3 at the New Circus Theater at 9.30pm: Michael Legrand and Joan As Police

Randy Brecker and Bill Evans are two of the greatest jazz artists of the moment and come together 15 years later to commemorate the Soulbop tour. Lisa Simone, daughter of Nina Simone, comes to reclaim her own space in the world of music, presenting My World, where she finds her own place, her own identity.

November 10 at El Batel at 9:30 p.m.: Billy Cobham and Stanley Clarke Band.

The Panamanian-American Billy Cobham was one of the first artists to combine the rhythms of rock with the polyrhythms of jazz and funk. It is one of the batteries that have most influenced the way we play. He has enriched the technique of jazz drums, has moved it with energy to the field of jazz-rock and has become a model for all the batteries of the world.

Stanley Clarke, a four-time Grammy Award winner, and undoubtedly one of the most famous acoustic and electric bass players in the world. A living legend, during his career of more than 40 years as bass virtuoso.

November 16 at the New Circus Theater at 9.30pm: Scott Matthew and Al Di Meola.

The Australian Scott Matthew comes to present his latest album Unlearned. Sweetness, sadness and bitterness in their just doses are the characteristics of his style.

Al Di Meola, the great jazz fusion guitar. Demonic virtuoso of the guitar, he has been a pioneer in the fusion of world music, rock and jazz.

November 24 at the New Circus Theater at 9.30pm: Richard Bona and Femi Kuti

Richard Bona is known as the «African Sting». He is one of the musicians who have best known how to fuse the sounds and traditions of his native Africa, the European influence and the best American jazz.

Femi Kuti, eldest son of Fela Kuti, continues to maintain the overwhelming spirit of his father and who has deservedly become the main heir of that hypnotic style, where political protest coexists with irresistible dancing and festive spirit. Funk, soul and R & B passed through the filter of the overwhelming Panafrican primitive rhythms that continue to inspire generations with their vindictive and hopeful discourse.

Tickets for each concert can be purchased for 20 euros or 25, depending on the day. The rest of activities are totally free. There are also tickets -specifically 250- to attend all the shows but they can only be purchased in person at the ticket offices of the Nuevo Teatro Circo and the El Batel Auditorium and by phone by credit card.
